The Moonstone

Honestly, I haven't finished reading this book. The classic edition printing is not very good. The print is somehow small and tedious, and I find myself not wanting to finish it (if it's not for my literature class). Maybe I should bring it along everywhere, just to make sure I read a couple of pages (at least) in my free times.
The storyline is quite unique, hardly boring and original as well. I watched the movie during HL205 lecture, quite enjoyable but found the portray of the characters slightly silly, but nevertheless, the movie helps me to understand the novel much better.
Not your everyday detective story even though this novel is considered one of the first detective novels in England history. The investigation and everything related to sleuth is only a small part of the novel. What I read from Wikipedia, that the mentioning of opium usage in this novel is considered new, and most probably it is based on the writer's own experience of using opium.
The love triangle (I think it's rectangular, yes, 4 persons are involved) is the source of conflict, together with the Moonstone (the diamond). What makes the novel unique is also the mentioning of Indian (and their culture in this movie as well). English colonialization is simply everywhere! We get to see the Indian religious ritual in this movie, a not-to-be-missed one.
Will try to find the info about the movie, and any possible adaptation. Meanwhile, enjoy reading the book! Oh yes, you can find the book in Popular bookstore. Since it's a classic (means no royalty paid to the writer anymore), you can buy it at a very cheap price. Happy reading! :)
