Little House Sampler
Little House SamplerYour ultimate guide to Little House series! I was so glad when I found this book in Borders. Little did I know that there were so many Little House series companion books out there, just waiting for me to be bought :P.
Anyway, what I found so interesting about this book is that you get to read Rose's writing about herself, with she began like this:
"Writing about one's self is a most difficult task. It is impossible to do it without appearing egoistic, and since everyone is egoistic, no one likes to appear so.We like to show, by being most modest, how different we are from others, how superior. So, between the delight of being asked to talk about himself, and the hope of concealing the delight, the autobiographer feels frightfully foolish, and can only begin like an after-dinner speaker with his speech carefully prepared, by asking the indulgence of his hearers for these few extemporaneous remaks, 'unaccostumed as I am...'
So true, and yet, she did a good job writing about herself! Most of the stories and articles in this book are written based on Rose's point of view. She wrote about her Granpa's famous fiddle, her solemn Grandma, her birthday gifts, her family journeys, etc.
One thing I admire from this most-beloved pioneer family is their willingness to work hard, their determinance and also the simplicity of their lives. Everything is so simple when you believe in yourself, a lesson that I learn the hard way :).
